6) Ask the Experts and Shop Talk Forums
------------------------------------------------------------
a) Ask the Experts Question of the Week
By Raj k. Bharati
I want to create WAN connectivity using a single network for the WAN
section with an individual serial port connection. Is it possible to
assign all the serial ports of the router to the same subnet? If not,
please advise regarding an appropriate solution.

Lend Raj a hand or find out the answer for yourself.

b) Shop Talk Post of the Week
By Don Brookshire
I just read the article in the May 29th issue regarding Windows Server
2003. I was wondering if anyone has done an upgrade from Windows
Server 2000 and what the results were. Every article I have read
discusses either an upgrade from NT4 or a clean install.

John Caporale responds:
Anyone who does this for real would never recommend a first iteration
Microsoft platform until at least two major updates. Not for anything
other than a lab or self-education. A live 2003 server? Not for
another 8-12 months, at least.

If you have a similar (or dissimilar) experience, let Don know.

c) NWC Inc.: It Just Isn't My Month...
Well, the fixes are not fixing things. I've been able to confirm with
IBM that the specific problem that has cropped up is endemic to
WebSphere 3.5 and 4.0.1. WebSphere 5.0 does not have this problem, so
we'll be migrating as soon as possible to WAS 5.0.

Our editors have chosen "Second Generation Mobile and Wireless
Networks" by Uyless Black as this week's featured companion book.
Black compares the four digital technologies--CDMA, GSM, TDMA and PCS
Satellite--that will dominate the marketplace for second-generation
mobile and wireless networks from the standpoint of the communications
engineer and manager. You'll learn how each technology seeks to
deliver improved clarity, reliability and speed. You'll also review
every critical issue faced by engineers, network managers and others
involved in deploying these systems.
