infrastructures are beginning to blur. Read our Workshop article,
"Telephony 101: Giving Voice to Your Network," for a thorough guide
to integrating and supporting telecom devices and technologies for
your network.

Plus, there's still time to test your Web services security savvy
with our latest TechQuiz. Check out our Newsletter Specials for the
particulars. And if an IT challenge is getting you down, post your
problem to one of our forums. You'll get real-world, hands-on advice
from NWC editors and readers. Our Current Forum Threads section has
all the details.

As always, please feel free to message us directly if you have any
comments or questions (mailto:newsletter@nwc.com).

b) Article Locator
To help you easily locate stories you see in NWC's print magazine
while you're online, we've created a small Article Locator tool, which
will let you open a story by typing an article ID (basically a few
numbers and letters, like 1420f1) rather than an entire URL. Visit our
brief tutorial to get started.

7) Current Forum Threads
------------------------------------------------------------
a) Ask the Experts: W2K Server
By Johnny Caldwell
I have a WAN with 10 different servers and Active Directory installed.
What's the best way to prevent all but one server from issuing an IP
address?

b) Shop Talk: Linux: A Reason to Stick With NetWare
By Rodney Anderson
I cannot understand why anyone who has used NetWare would replace
their NetWare servers with anything from Microsoft. NetWare is far
more stable and offers much better performance for file serving
applications. The only place I have found the Windows products to be
superior in is the ease of setting up print services. Novell's
acknowledgement that Linux is part of the enterprise will make the
lives of network admins easier all over the world. The people who
should be looking to replace their servers with something else are the
Microsoft Windows users.

8) Buyer's Guide: iSCSI SANs

Fibre Channel isn't your only option. iSCSI SANs offer lower cost,
easier deployment and greater distance.

a) TechXNY: Nothing Doing

TechXNY used to be a killer show, with wall-to-wall attendance and
tons of new product announcements. Used to be.

10) Network Computing's Security Pipeline: The Cost of Complacency
------------------------------------------------------------
By Keith Ferrell
When widely publicized attacks don't happen on schedule, it's tempting
to let your security guard down. Maybe we should count complacency
among the very highest risks our networks face.

An industrious reader embraces on-demand computing the old-fashioned
way...one dollar at a time.

b) MoblogIT: Funky Cisco and Fluke Wallpaper
One reader proves that you can mix science and art in the form of
desktop wallpaper...too bad it's only large enough for a handheld.
http://update.networkcomputing.com/cgi-bin4/DM/y/edCm0Be3GS0V40CAYP0AY

c) NWC Inc.: Back in the Saddle Again
Sean Doherty is working on a review and taking advantage of our
infrastructure. Sometime yesterday we lost all connectivity between
our Cisco router and our provider's CPE. Turns out the router was
running at 99 percent CPU utilization and dropping packets faster than
a well-configured firewall fending off MSBlast.

d) The Daily Blog: Can You Hear Me--OW! Part II
More "fun" with cell phones, although unlike our last post, this poses
more of a health hazard than a financial one.
http://update.networkcomputing.com/cgi-bin4/DM/y/edCm0Be3GS0V40CAYR0Aa

e) The Daily Blog: Flushing Nemo
I know this has very little to do with technology, but there's a
movement afoot requiring that someone speak out. Apparently, small
children (and I'm sure some adults) have taken the premise of this
summer's "Finding Nemo" a little too seriously.

13) Editor's Bookshelf and Storage White Paper Pick
------------------------------------------------------------
Our editors have chosen "Internet Telephony: Call Processing
Protocols" by Uyless Black as this week's featured companion book.
Black provides an overview of basic telephony call processing,
focusing on the differences between traditional circuit switching
and the more contemporary packet-based networks. A special section
discusses telephony routing over IP, and the major standards and
protocols are explored in detail.
