7) Workshop: Layer 2 Discovery
------------------------------------------------------------
By Bruce Boardman
Layer 2 discovery drills down to information such as which
devices are attached to which ports and which switches are
connected to one another. It shows the path between clients,
switches, routers and servers for application and network
services. Basically, it helps you plan and get to the source
of network failures.

9) Current Forum Threads

a) Ask the Experts: Installing Exchange 5.5 on Windows Server 2000
By Dennis Miller
I am trying to install Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2000 server. I keep
getting an error that says it must be on an NT domain. I am not
running Active Directory. I just want to create a second SMTP gateway
server with Exchange 5.5 on it. I am doing this because we are going
to Active Directory soon and I would like there to be one less server
to upgrade. Is there a way to load Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2000
server?

b) Outsourcing Center: Creating a Hybrid Team?
By Sam Leakey
I also have a question for Wesley. In your story, you mention an
overemphasis on process to be one of the root causes of failure in
outsourcing development, stating that documentation can't substitute
for domain expertise. I agree with that. But from what I've read, it
sounds like the problem maybe wasn't just the weight of the process
itself but a lack of "invested" individuals involved in the process.
In your experience, do you feel that it's possible to dump some of the
project management overhead and create a hybrid team of developers
(some offshore, some on / some in house, some out) that work through
the same documentation process?

c) XML: Too Much of a Good Thing
By Don MacVittie
Every software vendor under the sun is trumpeting its use of XML in
one fashion or another. Those three letters are so prevalent in
marketing materials and sales pitches that you might think XML is
essential for all kinds of development. Trouble is, it's not.
