1) NWC Channels
a) Business Applications Channel: Excel, Web Style
2Web Technologies has introduced its newest software, XL2Web, a
platform
for creating interactive, Web-based applications from Excel
spreadsheets.
Not content with simply displaying an Excel spreadsheet in a browser
window,
2Web interprets and converts spreadsheets into thin-client applications
capable of running within a browser without plug-ins or Excel installed
on
the client desktop.

b) Security Channel: Off the Hook?
Phishing has been one of those technology topics that keeps popping up
in
the popular press as consumers are conned into providing all their
personal
details to fake banking or government sites. This social-engineering
exploit
(and it is social engineering, since most people willingly provide
their
information) is becoming better known among consumers, and a lack of
trust
is the last thing e-commerce needs right now.

5) Download Mania: Select Files From IT Pro Downloads
a) ActiveScreenLock
ActiveScreenLock disables Windows system key combinations, such as
Alt+F4
and Ctrl+Alt+Del, and then shows a security screen over your desktop
that
will not let anyone except you in without the proper password. Once the
system keys are disabled, it is not possible to switch to another
application,
run a program or kill the ActiveScreenLock window using Task Manager.

popup ads are blocked, and banner ads can be blocked for faster
surfing.

6) Eye on Security
a) Alertcon: Red Hat
Red Hat's redhat-config-nfs package is a graphical interface for
configuring
the NFS server. When shares are exported to many hosts, permissions are
improperly set on these shares, which may result in the failure of the
all_squash option being applied to all hosts. This could allow a remote
unauthorized user to gain elevated privileges on exported shares.

b) Security Threat Watch: Multiple Vulnerabilities in Symantec's
Enterprise
Firewall and Gateway Products
The most notable item this week involves UDP problems in the Symantec
Enterprise Firewall and Gateway devices. It is possible for a remote
attacker
to fetch the firewall configuration and potentially cause a denial of
service
attack against the devices.
