Forward to a friend!
The Importance of Having ‘Integrity’
Hewlett-Packard executives rolled out long-awaited details of the
company’s new Integrity line of servers June 30 in a Webcast and conference
call to customers and press. Integrity servers are those from HP that
use Intel’s new Itanium processor (with the exception of NonStop, which
will be moved to Itanium but not placed under the Integrity brand).
All 32-bit Intel-based servers will continue as part of the ProLiant
family.
The Integrity family ranges from one- and two-processor, entry-level
systems up to a 64-processor HP Integrity Superdome server, the whole
range of which offers what HP claims is an “unmatched, cost-efficient,
high-performance, multi-operating system infrastructure.”
The whole strategy of offering two Intel lines gives HP “a tremendous
advantage in the marketplace,” Rich Marcello, general manager and vice
president of marketing for HP's Business-Critical Systems unit told HP
World Magazine in an interview. “Instead of investing very wide across
multiple product lines the way an IBM does, we'll be able to focus our
investment” on two lines, he said.

Inside HP This Week
The Sky's the Limit: Hewlett-Packard scaled up its Web research by
becoming a sponsor, along with Intel Corp., of PlanetLab, a testing scheme
for networked technology on the Web. HP Labs will work with about 60
research institutions including MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Princeton and

computers at 65 sites in 16 countries with its own routers and servers. The
group plans to expand to more than 1,000 machines soon. Research in
areas such as distributed storage, network mapping, peer-to-peer systems,

Then Compaq CEO Michael Capellas decided in March 2001 to abdicate

platform, all of this bodes well for HP and its hundreds of thousands
